I got the coyote vest and whiskers almost a year back after bringing home an 18-pound pup. The idea was to let him romp around in the fenced yard without stressing too much about coyote threats. We live in a neighborhood about 1.5 miles from the ocean, where coyotes have been seen wandering the streets. They come down from a nearby canyon.

On the bright side, the vest does give us a bit of peace of mind against those coyotes.

On the downside, we’ve been dealing with ongoing issues with the velcro spike strips not staying put. Within the first week of having the vest, one of the strips went missing in the yard, and I still haven’t tracked it down. I reached out to Coyote Vest right away, hoping they’d replace it, but the customer service rep suggested it was my fault—telling me to check for fur on the strips and ensure they were clean. They also mentioned that the velcro quality varies and they can’t guarantee all strips will be the same. My dog doesn’t shed, and the vest was brand new and clean. I was told I could buy extra strips, but since this was a $100 purchase, I wasn’t keen on spending more.

The whiskers didn’t work out for us either because my dog goes in and out through a doggie door, and the whiskers just couldn’t handle that. So, we returned them for a refund.

At this point, I’ve pretty much given up on the spike strips since they keep coming off. We’re just using the vest without the spikes now, which I hope still offers some protection. I had thought about taking the vest to a seamstress to get the strips sewn on for good, but I haven’t gotten around to it and, honestly, I don’t want to shell out more cash to fix this issue.

I’d suggest that Coyote Vest consider providing an option to have the strips permanently attached before sending them out to customers.

This vest is super sturdy and a breeze to put on my 12 lb dog. Fingers crossed we never find out if it really helps in an attack or abduction, but for now, I'm giving it 5 stars for how well it's made.

I got a vest for my two dogs, specifically the coyote vest along with the whiskers and hawk shield. It works great for one of my pups, but the other one? Not so much. The velcro keeps coming undone, and we've nearly lost some spikes and a set of three whiskers. Plus, the vest doesn’t sit right on her; it keeps twisting to the side. If we tighten the strap, it ends up hurting her. It really needs to be super snug to avoid that rotation. We were advised to use super glue on the velcro, but that would make it a permanent fix, and we wouldn’t be able to remove anything like it’s supposed to. Maybe the issue is that my dog just can’t stand the vest and is always shaking, which causes it to rotate and the velcro to come loose? Also, she’s got short legs and a round body, so that might play a part too.

I got myself a CoyoteVest after our pup had a run-in with a coyote ages ago. Ever since that incident, I've been pretty nervous about taking him out after dark. But now that we've got the CoyoteVest, I'm feeling a lot better about it. Since our dog is getting on in years, he’s not too keen on doing his business while wearing the vest. It took him a bit to get used to peeing during our strolls. I'm giving this product a solid 5 because I believe with a bit more training, he’ll adapt to the CoyoteVest just fine, and I really appreciate having something that offers a bit of safety rather than nothing at all.

The delivery was super fast. For his tiny 4-pound frame, it’s really lightweight. The spikes are quite solid and appear capable of causing some harm. He looks adorable and definitely gives off the vibe of being the toughest pup around! I really wish you had sizes for my pit bull. He’s a sweetheart, but other dogs act like they wanna fight! If that ever goes down, I’m sure he’d hold his own, but it’s a shame he might face serious consequences just because of his breed. I usually carry pepper spray, but I’d love to have another option.

I purchased a couple of coyote vests. They are a tad on the expensive side. Initially, my Boarder Terrier wasn’t too keen on wearing it, but after a few tries, he’s gotten used to it. One vest fits perfectly, but the other one tends to shift to the right. No matter how tight I make it, it just won’t stay in the middle. This leaves the left side of my pup nearly exposed.

My experience with Coyote Vest has been nothing short of 5 STARS! Lola’s vest showed up right on schedule, nicely packaged, and came with straightforward instructions for putting together her ‘bristles’. She puts it on every night and actually waits for me to help her get it on before heading outside. The quality is top-notch and it seems like it’ll last forever. Big thanks to Coyote Vest for keeping Lola safe and giving me total peace of mind while she’s out there. Hats off to a fantastic American company that really knows how to get it right!

I recently picked up some whiskers to complement a raincoat my pups already own. Assembling the whiskers was actually pretty enjoyable and chill. The quality is solid, and I was glad it arrived with minimal packaging. I'd definitely suggest this product.

I purchased the studded collar to keep my 20-pound pup safe from hyperactive, poorly trained younger dogs (like labs and retrievers) at the dog park. It does a great job of shielding against rough play from other dogs. I've suggested it to fellow small dog owners at the park.

My pup is pretty skinny, so I had to tweak the Velcro a bit. I’m not sure if the hawk section will detach since he’s only 4 pounds, but having those eagles flying around gives me some reassurance.

Placing the order was a breeze and the delivery was quick. In my view, this item isn't worth the $100 price tag. It's made of basic materials and has Velcro! Honestly, if a coyote tried to go after my dogs, I reckon all those Velcro spikes would just fall off. Definitely not a good value. Feeling let down.

When a pitbull took my chihuahua's life back in February 2018, I knew I had to find a way to keep my next pup safe. It's super well made, and I really appreciate that you can take off the spikes and whiskers, letting you customize the level of protection. For example, when my dog is just hanging out in the backyard, I only put on the vest with the whiskers to shield her from any birds of prey. CoyoteVest has definitely eased my worries about keeping my furry friend secure.

The company responds to inquiries in no time and is super helpful. I have three vests and hawk shields for my pups. Fitting them just right can be a bit of a hassle, but once you get it down, they’re easy to put on. I might think about adding a second strap around the waist to help keep the vest in place. That could be a bit bothersome for the dog, though. Not really sure. I hope I never have to put one of these vests to the test, but I’m really glad I have them and I’m doing my best to keep my dogs safe.

This is the ultimate protection for my chihuahua. I'd suggest this to anyone with a dog that roams off-leash or gets to play in a fenced yard. The coyote/hawk vest provides me with ample time to reach my dog if I hear him yelp or spot any trouble. Plus, I carry a shillelagh with a pointed end for extra peace of mind. Really solid product.
